First Ever Limerick Boys and Girls Open Tennis Championships July 1959, At Limerick Lawn Tennis Club.

Limerick Lawn Tennis Club celecbrated a half century of its annual Junior Open South of Ireland Championships when the 2009 version, generously sponsored by Coca-Cola, commenced on June 28th on the Ennis Road. The July 27, 1959 edition of the Limerick Leader reported that “The first ever Limerick Boys and Girls Open Tennis Championships concluded on a very successful note at the Limerick L.T.C. Grounds, Ennis Road, in warm, brilliant sunshine.” “The Committee are to be congratulated for arranging such a fixture which, we understand, will now be held in future years.”
