Over the next while I intend to introduce you to a very good friend of mine, Mary T Keane. Mary is the author of a number of books dealing with healing/health related topics. Besides she has also delved into family history and poetry. With Mary's permission I'm going to introduce you to some of her poetry published under the title "Streaming down the Years by Mary T Keane"and we'll see what happens after that.
Book details:
STREAMING DOWN THE YEARS "Streaming Down The Years" has poems about everything from fishing for "brickeens" as a child to visits to her uncle, a curate, in Ballylooby, as well as descriptions of many of Cahir's colourful characters of years gone by. Price(EUR): €7.99 MaryTKeane.comNostalgia
'Pigeon Coffey steps as if on springs,
Walking up our road, her basket swings,
A huge 'Bun' on the top of her head,
She'd a model figure people said.
Visits brother Tom over the hill,W
In a thatched cottage with Mary still,
Scents tea-roses creeping round the door,
Tea 'n' fresh tart, set her longing for more.
Walks on down the hill to Marshall's Stream,
Where gurgling water o'er pebbles gleams,
Children plying their nets to and fro,
Filling jam-jars with brickeens on show.
Proceeds on the road half a mile away,
Where Pat Casey is forking hay,
Mag Evans says "The deem is too dong",
Blies are on the dit' getting it wrong!
Pidge picks foxgloves, daisies 'n buttercups,
Growing all around Pat Casey's field,
A pony's trot on the road interrupts,
To Minnie's offer of a lift, she yields.
